DPD majority shareholder GeoPost announces consolidated turnover of 3.668 billion euros in 2011

GeoPost, subsidiary of La Poste and a leading player in the field of international parcel shipping, recorded a total revenue of 3.668 billion euros in 2011 on the basis of comparable data. This is an increase in sales of 6.6% compared to the previous year. GeoPost also recorded growing volumes of 6.8% in 2011, when more than 680 million parcels were shipped throughout the DPD network.

GeoPost has been growing almost everywhere in Europe. Exceptional growth was recorded in the United Kingdom, where GeoPost UK succeeded in generating new business at a record level. Sales were supported by the local Predict Service, which managed to deliver almost 97% of all parcels in the pre-announced one-hour delivery window. In Eastern Europe DPD Poland was able to establish itself in second place on the domestic market, while DPD Czech Republic proved to be extremely successful creating a market-leading e-commerce solution, as well as increasing its DPD Private B2C solution by 62%.

In the Netherlands a major milestone was achieved by the opening of the “New Holland Hub”. Together with the crucial new depots and hubs which are currently under construction near Cologne in Germany and Lodz in Poland, for example, this will add even greater efficiency to the company's European road network. The new hub near Lodz will be the biggest of its kind in Eastern Europe and the depot in Erftstadt near Cologne will secure DPD's business in Germany and beyond. DPD in Germany also recorded record volumes in 2011, transporting an average of 70,000 parcels more each working day than during the year before.

In the southern parts of the continent, which have been severely affected by the financial and economic crisis, business developed less dynamically. Nevertheless DPD's associate company SEUR was able to defend its status as the most profitable parcel operator in Spain and retained its position as the market leader.

Today, 17 February, in Rae Industrial Park, DPD Eesti AS is opening a new logistics centre, which is equipped with the most up-to-date, powerful sorting technology, in comparison to other similar companies in Estonia. The new centre allows for courier deliveries to be handled even faster and in significantly larger volumes than before.

More than two million parcel deliveries are handled by DPD Eesti courier company. “When we speed up the handling of parcels during the delivery process by just a single second, it means a time saving of more than 555 hours annually. This is definitely of great value for both our customers and us, because time is equally valued by everyone,” said the DPD Eesti Managing Director, Tarmo Tael, in introducing the capabilities of the new hub.

In addition, it provides better working and living conditions for the employees and, according to the managing director, customers will also benefit.

The parcel sorting technology in the recently completed distribution centre is also new. This is the latest technology, the utilisation of which will provide the company with effective growth in parcel handling. “In our previous terminal, the parcel sorting capacity was 2,000 to 2,400 parcels per hour, depending on the nature of the parcel; in the new Taevavärava terminal, this should be approximately one and a half to two times faster, which means we should be able to sort 4,500 parcels per hour,” Rainer Rohtla, DPD Eesti AS Manager of Development Projects, said when commenting on the output of the new terminal. According to Mr Rohtla, the capability for handling pallets will also increase significantly in the new building. “In making the investments, we have considered the specifics of the local market. It is important for us that the facilities we use provide the best possible benefit to our customers and the owners,” noted Rohtla. He said that the new terminal will provide the company with the opportunity to virtually double package volumes in the next five years.

The gross area of DPD’s new modern terminal is 2,038.8 square meters, with an additional 822.2 square meters of office space.

The construction of the building began in the spring of 2011. The total investment is approximately 2 million euros. The cooperation partner of DPD in the design and construction of the distribution centre was Astlanda Ehitus OÜ.
