International logistics company DPD Eesti officially opened on 21st of August its new parcel-sorting depot in Tartu. New terminal is four times bigger from company’s previous and enables process more than 3000 parcels per hour.

Total area of new sorting terminal is over 1500m2 and there are 31 gates for couriers’ vehicles to load and unload parcels in the new depot. South-Estonian depot is equipped with modern parcel scanning system and sorting line. Sorting capacity of the depot has been increased up to 3000 parcels per hour.

According to DPD Eesti Managing Director Tarmo Tael the need for the new South-Estonian depot has come from company’s fast growth. “During last five years we have changed from a company orientated only from domestic market into international logistics company. We continue developments of services and depot network in order to be natural first choice for companies and organizations for domestic and international parcel delivery,” says Tael.

“On the other hand new technologies enable to be cost-effective. For customers it means we can offer parcel delivery with reasonable price. From taking account today’s and near future decreasing economical conjuncture, sensible and reasonable saving is significant key to competitive advantage, adds Tael.

DPD owns in Baltic’s biggest and well-developed depot and delivery network: with more than 600 couriers and 30 depots. Investing into South-Estonian parcel sorting depot supports DPD aim to secure customers mainly all over Baltic region next day deliveries together with additional services.

"New depot is shortening remarkably scanning time of parcels and ables quicker delivery time for vehicles," is commenting Tael. For a client it means comparatively earlier delivery, saving approximately an hour.

Paris – 4 April 2008. GeoPost along with its partner Yurtiçi Kargo, acquired jointly the majority of shares in Pegasus, one of the most successful Courier and Express Parcel companies in Romania. All representatives finalised the acquisition on 27 March 2008.

The DPD road based products and services in Europe have proven to be extremely popular within all the other European domestic and international markets.
